French officials have consented to begin stopping small boats in the Channel, after months of insistence from the UK.

The change in policy follows the Prime Minister wrote to the President asking him to back the plan and stating there presently "have no effective preventive measure" in the maritime passage.

French security forces have been authorized to intercept the migrant vessels at sea, but exclusively prior to they've collected their migrants, according to authoritative confirmation.

French authorities have infrequently intervened to stop the overcrowded boats leaving the shoreline because it is considered excessively high a danger to both personnel and civilians.

"It is essential that we deploy these tactics this period... We have no effective prevention in the Channel waters."

Currently, a French maritime police representative states officers will start taking action at sea, with the aim of safeguarding lives.

Significantly, the official ruled out the use of entanglement devices to stop boats, which had earlier been suggested as a possible method to disable the engines of the boats.

This determination to intervene at all is a significant advancement, following a short-lived shift towards a stricter approach this summer, which dropped off when the former government official departed from office.

This was demonstrated in July, preceding a summit between the Prime Minister and French president, when authorities were witnessed wading into the sea to damage the sides of a vessel.

Currently French officials will once more be allowed to intercept boats prior to they collect asylum-seeking individuals from the beaches of France's north coast, however it's uncertain how the small boats will be stopped.
